Saffron from Afghanistan - Super Negin Saffron - 2.5 Gram Tin
Saffron from Afghanistan - Super Negin Saffron - 2.5 Gram Tin
I cook a lot, have previously used saffron plenty of times for paella, mussels, and fisksoppa (scandinavian fish soup).
I steamed mussels in white wine, then used this saffron to mix in a saffron cream sauce. Overall, they're good.
Fake saffron usually dissolves completely as it's laced/supplemented with starch or turmeric for extra volume. These threads didn't dissolve completely, imparted the characteristic yellow-ish hue. I didn't run them through a GC mass spectrometer or anything, but overall, I'd say they're very likely authentic.
As far as value goes, "super negin" grade saffron is the highest grade there is, and it's typically $15-20 per gram. These are a bit under that, but you're also buying significantly more saffron. The one in the grocery store isn't even 1 gram. So this is a pretty good deal for the highest grade available.
Hello friends, I selected this benefit spice Afghan saffron for cooking.
The spice comes in a really nice box. It was super hard to get into because it was glued down with a very serious glue. You can't simply open it with your hands so you need a knife and be very careful with it. Inside the box it's very pretty. It comes with a little card letting you know that you've donated toward Afghanistan. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I'm hoping that it directly benefits the Afghan women who are harvesting it. The saffron itself is in a tin that is not sealed. It is simply placed in a little tin with a plastic window top. The color of it is very nice. It's a rich, deep red color. I added just a few strands of it to some rice and it made it a golden color.
Bright red color and very aromatic. Comes packaged in a windowed tin that comes wrapped in tissue paper and enclosed in an attractive box. Would be suitable for gifting. Part of the proceeds go to fund nonprofit activities in Afghanistan so you can feel good about ordering.
I love this saffron, I used a tiny bit to make some yellow rice for flavor and color and it turned out wonderfully! Cant wait to use it in more dishes in the future!
This is a large amount of saffron (will last me a long time), delivered in a nice presentation box and container. The saffron itself appears to be good quality, a rich dark red color with only a few flecks of yellow, which is normal. It is fragrant and is great for adding color to dishes, a great pantry staple.
